I went outside of my office
three times
before deciding
to stay inside.
Stood there
opened my wallet
and searched for my cel phone,
I quickly realized
it wasn't in my wallet
at all, and was in fact
the reason for leaving
my office in the first place.
I had been searching for it.
But, while looking through my wallet
I found a phone number
printed neatly
in a feminine hand
on the back
of an old business card.
It made me wonder.
So I decided to call the number,
but then I remembered
my phone wasn't in my wallet
where I'd been looking for it
I walked out of my office
again, remembering why
I'd left there in the first place
which was to ask a subordinate
to call my cell phone number
so I could maybe hear it, and find it.
Instinctively I handed him
the piece of paper with
the feminine scrawl on it
which he began to dial
as I realized he could call my
cell from his own contact list.
None the less
I was curious as to who
the number on the slip of paper
belonged to. So I waited.
As he dialed the numbers
a phone rang in the front
left pocket of my pants.
For the moment everything
seemed to fall into place,
except, who was calling
and why was I looking
for my phone in my wallet ,
and where is my wallet now...
