I was in your apartment today= originally "homecoming=
I was in your apartment today.
Everything was gone,
except for a few crumpled receipts,
six wire coat hangers,
and a hairball you missed
by the bedroom door.
You left things much cleaner
than last time you moved.
You took time to Spackle
a few nail holes
and you left the kitchen
and bathroom
near sparkly clean.
I was impressed
that you accomplished
so much in single day
off work.
You must really be counting
on that security
deposit back.
I never would have guessed
you had plans for this
last night
as I watched you sleep,
sipping my Diet Coke, gazing
at you from your bedroom
doorway. I love to watch you
sleep, so snug and sound,
with your bunny rabbit snore.
Or to watch you shower,
damping face and breasts
drying your hair, so soft,
with a yellow or blue
towel. You are so beautiful!
Even as I watch you
from outside your window,
The special times we've shared
longing from afar, so near, our
breaking hearts tugging back,
so close. Soon again, when
we'll share those wanton nights.
When it's clear, close, apart.
When you lie there open, I'll miss
that most of all, but not for long.
because I know can't go far,
I'll see you in the morning
at work, and be home again
when you loan me your key
and ask me to care
for your cat.
