we work so hard
on these little bags of words
we craft them, draft them
re-read and change them
trying hard to make them
perfect.
never, ever done
but sometimes close enough
so we parade them to readings
two or three bags at a time
while enduring
other poets bags, some better
some worse, than ours.
once confident that
little more can be done
to fill our bags better
we submit them to
publications for acceptance
or not.
once published we proudly
open the book to
the table of contents
and finally get a look
at our baby, our jewel-in-print
for all to read, and read it
